Sandwich Generation Caregiving

In March 2017, my mom moved from Missouri to Kentucky so I could look after her since she was showing “mild” signs of memory loss.

At that time, my husband and I were raising our eleven-year-old son and six-year-old daughter. I realized within a few months that Mom wasn’t simply struggling with “old age” forgetfulness, but the cruel condition of Alzheimer’s disease.

I began an eight-year sandwich generation caregiving journey that taught me a lot about God, myself, faith, life, and death. I hope what I share on this page will encourage you in your own caregiving journey

Would you like to share words of encouragement, a tip, or simply a funny story from your own life as a caregiver + parent?

You may currently be the primary caretaker for your parent while raising your kids—or, like me, you are a former SG caregiver. Let's uplift one another, because this calling is not an easy one. E-mail me your story (approx. 500 words or less) and I'll post it here for others to read and share: writerkicox@gmail.com
